Elk Candy Company was founded in the midst of the great depression in 1933 and has been a beloved New York icon ever since. Elk was named by using the initials of the founders Elizabeth and Ludwig Kramer.

After working with the Kramer’s for over 15 year Swiss born Albert W. Hadener bought Elk Candy Company in 1961.

In 1990 Leka Lulgjuraj bought Elk Candy from Albert after working as head baker and candy maker for nearly 30 years.

In 1993 Anton Lulgjuraj took over after his father Leka passed away.

In April of 1997 Elk Candy had to move from its long time home at 240 East 86th St.

In November 1997 Elk Candy Company found a new home just around the corner at 1628 2nd Ave. The popularity of Elk Candy Company grew in its new location, having a difficult time keeping up with demand during the holiday season.

In April of 2006 Elk Candy Company closed the doors after the landlord refused to renew the lease for the location.

Three years later and in keeping with tradition, we’ve decided to open the virtual doors in the midst of the great recession. Elk Candy Company opened its online doors in October 2009. Anton Lulgjuraj is still here and brought along some new faces Frank Lulgjuraj, Giovanni Salamone and our Chief Chocolatier Luis Munoz.
